Heavy Reading’s SCTE Cable Next-Gen Broadband Technology Plans & Strategies Survey Report 2022 offers valuable insights into a dizzying array of new technologies, solutions, and platforms that cable industry decision makers are now weighing, testing, and/or deploying. The report presents the results of a new global survey of 154 cable and converged network operators conducted during October 2022.
This is the fifth annual version of this survey, which started out looking at just the cable industry’s fiber activities but has since expanded its focus. The 18-page report analyzes the industry’s adoption of FTTX, next-gen PON, Distributed Access Architecture (DAA), converged cable access platform (CCAP), network virtualization, network automation, and artificial intelligence (AI), among others. It also shares insights from SCTE, a leading cable industry organization.
A common theme in this year’s report is that operators are increasingly embracing technologies and platforms that once seemed quite foreign for the cable industry. In particular, network virtualization, AI, DAA, and network automation are all making great strides in the traditional cable HFC architecture as operators seek new ways to cut costs, streamline operations, boost bandwidth capabilities, and serve customers better.
