The Solar Winds attack and other major attacks show that hackers and nation states are taking their gloves off and escalating the sophistication and scale of attacks. When a network is compromised, it can affect all parties connected to the network. While some of the risks in aerospace and defense are unique, most of the cybersecurity practices and trends for enterprises apply. In particular, as aerospace and defense companies increasingly use commercial components, they must conduct diligence on and work to secure the entire supply chain. These expert panelists favor consistent security standards and security mandates; without such standards and mandates, security is often not the priority that it needs to be. The panelists recommend mitigation strategies, use of key management, encryption, containerization, partitioning, and other ways to keep applications separated. Security needs to be part of the design process and organizations need to view security proactively, not just reactively. |
