PhishProof Report: How to Decrease Phishing Email Click Rates

Phishing attacks grow more sophisticated with each passing year. With machine learning technological advances, we are seeing a rise in automated spear phishing attacks that target C-suite executives and board members on a mass scale. Nefarious actors will comb through social media profiles to identify these senior level department heads and either attack them directly with personalized email messaging, or spoof their identities, giving instructions to subordinates through email, SMS messages, or voice calls. The only way to combat against phishing, SMiShing, and vishing respectively is to shore up our frontline defense: the end users.

Through the use of PhishProof, Inspired eLearning’s Anti-Phishing Simulation Tool, and our award-winning courseware, Inspired eLearning is able to provide a holistic security awareness training solution. In fact, we have witnessed a trending decline in click rates when users have participated in phishing simulations as a part of their ongoing cybersecurity awareness training. When examining a sampling of 215 mid-sized companies with similar demographics in May of 2018, we found that if you phish your employees once a year, your company will have a 27% susceptibility rate. Instead, if you increase the number of PhishProof phishing campaigns to once a month, your susceptibility rate drops to 4%.

This report will examine the trends and findings from PhishProof’s Global Reporting Statistics and provide a snapshot comparison of two anonymous companies.
