Bandwidth was not the issue – the company actually has several multi-gigabit links between data centers. But latency and link errors meant missed replication targets – or, worse, replication jobs that never completed. Add the need for 7×24 availability of their on-demand media services and the network issues were clearly impacting mission critical operations. Oh, and one other issue: no room in the state-of-the-art data center for additional physical hardware. No problem. |
