The advent of 5G means different things to different people. Enterprises see 5G as a broadband access alternative, a possible digital transformation enabler, or even an opportunity for new business models.
Governments see 5G as an opportunity to build an ecosystem that builds a digital society and further improves the lives of citizens. Communications service providers see 5G as a prospect for new revenue streams with complex, sticky service packages.
As Omdia explains in this report, enterprise demand for 5G will grow on the back of relevant compelling use cases as ecosystems mature. Large enterprises are in a better position to invest in private or hybrid 5G networks for large campuses or where public 5G features are limited or service is unavailable. But immature ecosystems may lead large enterprises to continue choosing 4G private networks over 5G private networks today with the intention of upgrading to 5G in the future.
