High Shear vs. Low Shear Mixing: Software to Optimize the Mix

In the mixing industry, the term “shear” is used to describe the forces that are present due to adjacent layers of fluid moving with different velocities. Shear specifically refers to unaligned forces that push one part of an object in one direction and another part in the opposing direction within the same parallel plane. Mixing blades or impellers impart shear as they come into contact with a liquid and its suspended components. The level of shear created is primarily influenced by the mixing blade design and its rotational speed.
