Distracted drivers have become a serious risk in our daily lives. GPS navigation, cell phones, and even the radio have been known to take our eyes off the road. Sometimes the results are deadly. Pioneer has created an automotive overhead display to project GPS navigation information on the windshield. This overhead display would solve many of the safety issues associated with handheld GPS systems. However, Pioneer experienced design challenges that required many prototypes. This case study discusses how virtual prototyping and 3D printing prototypes in-house reduced the time to market, costs and improved collaboration during the development of the overhead display. |
